I finished this vest a month ago, but couldn’t get the m to wear it. She finally did, all day, when it was nice and cool. The amazing pattern is called Neighborly, and can be found here. I’m so grateful for people who are willing to throw free patterns and tutorials online just for others to enjoy.

As a family now thinking about waste and sustainability, we are looking at the little things in our daily lives. One of those things is our dish sponge. J brought into my life the Dobie Pad – an awesome scrubber sponge wrapped in netting and gentle enough for non-stick pans. I have learned to really love this sponge!
However, we are now rethinking our Dobie friend. Given that he will continue on far longer than we, doomed to sit in a landfill, it is time for a new method.
Actually, it’s more an old method…the cotton dishcloth! Not sure how it will go, but we’ll give it a try! In this season, we are thinking more about honoring God in our big and small choices.
The pattern is the Ballband Dishcloth from Mason Dixon Knitting. I told J I wanted to knit 15 of them, and he said to start with two, and we’ll just see if we like doing dishes with them.

I finished the cotton bath mat! Not sure if it goes well with the floor in the bathroom, but I like the texture and the size. I plan on storing it over the side of the tub, and pulling it down when it’s shower time. That’ll keep the bathroom floor more clear! WOO HOO!

Lately I’ve been mostly knitting hats for various little ones I know, or little ones who are on the way.
Two deviations from that path have been my knitting of a very tiny bear, and my current project, a cotton bath mat. Both projects have been hard on my fingers, so I look forward to getting back to hats! Haha!
I love making things!

Since m was born, I’ve been doing quite a bit of knitting. I held back in the beginning, when we spent most of our time just holding her or calming her down. But now that she sleeps like a champ (please, may it stay that way!), I’ve had time to knit. I LOVE it!

Yesterday I saw a double-pointed needle case at a knitting store. It was beautiful and handmade, but out of my price range. My plan was to put it on my wishlist, but when we got home, I decided to try to make one. It’s been really good tapping in to my love for creating things.
I’m really happy with the outcome.
Side note: J and m were great while I was in my lab tinkering away. Toward the end they even went for a walk so I could finish up!

I’m on a major knitting kick these days – I cannot stop. Direct result of A introducing me to Ravelry. There is something so satisfying about creating things, and then cataloging them. Ravelry lets me keep track of the exact yarns, patterns and needles I use. It also allows me to list the dates I start and finish things. For someone like me who just loves keeping track of all things, this is perfect. I know I sound like a commercial or a spokesperson – but I get like that when I like something. What can I say? Here’s a sweater I made for the little marsupial.
It took me about a week of feverish knitting. Probably was a little too focused. It makes me realize how I love seeing things transform.
